Crafting Wood Art: My Creative Process

I love working with wood. I also love the colorful and meaningful fabrics from Ghana. Over time, I started combining them in my art. The deep, polished wood and the bold fabric patterns create a beautiful contrast.

Why I Started

I wanted to try something new. Wood has a natural beauty, and African prints have rich designs. Putting them together felt like the right choice. Each fabric has a meaning, and the wood brings out its beauty even more.

My First Piece: The Drip
This was my first sculpture. I wanted to create something smooth and flowing. Seeing the wood grain shine through made me love working with wood even more.

Adding African Fabric
This is when I started mixing fabric with wood. The deep colors and patterns stand out against the wood, making each piece unique. I love the quality and intricacy of the fabric and I personally love to use wood. I find that the contrast is very striking.

Exploring and Improving

As I kept creating, I started carving more detailed shapes. This piece shows how curves and shadows can make a design stand out. Here, I experimented with swirls to show movement. I love how the patterns connect and flow together.

I enjoy making wood art, and I’ll keep creating new pieces. I’ll also share more of my work and process.

Above is a video that shows a bit of the process of how I make my pieces:
